Concrete

Concrete mixers are affected by abrasive wear from aggregates under both dry and wet conditions. Upgrading the material inside the drums to high abrasion-resistant steel grades can improve the lifetime and reduce the weight of the drum.

Hardox® wear plate and Toolox® engineering & tool steel are quenched and tempered steel grades that are used by Hardox Wearparts centers to make customized wear parts that withstand both sliding wear and impact. For applications involving severe or extreme sliding wear and low to moderate impact, Duroxite® overlay products are also available.

One example of a successful Hardox® upgrade is in a concrete mixer scratcher used to clean walls. The previous cast iron scraper lasted only 1/4 of the time compared to the one made from Hardox® 600. Another example is concrete molds that lasted longer and provided a higher block quality.
